Killarney’s Killeen course was chosen above rival applicants from Mount Juliet, Fota Island and Baltray, to host the event, which will be held over the August Bank Holiday Weekend. Killarney last hosted the Open in 1992, when it was won by British golfer Nick Faldo. Mayor of Killarney, Michael Gleeson, said the news couldn’t come at a better time for the town’s business people.
