The countdown is on for the August Races in Killarney, which begin on Tuesday, August 17, and will run for four days.
It’s a racing festival, being held for just the second time following its success in its inaugural running last year, that is offering something for everyone this year.
The popular races are a perfect way for the people of Killarney and those visiting the town to give a proper send-off to an unforgettable summer of sport that saw Killarney also successfully host the 3 Irish Open.
With the widespread media coverage of the Irish Open displaying Killarney’s beauty for all to see, visitors from far and wide are expected to descend on the town for the August Races which take place on Ireland’s most scenic racecourse.
There is a chance for the ladies to get dressed up, particularly on Friday, August 20, when TV3’s Sinead Desmond will be the celebrity judge of the most Appropriately Dressed Competition.
Radio Kerry Events present “The Big Party” featuring two of the UK’s biggest acts, 2008 X Factor Winner Alexandra Burke and 2009 Britain’s Got Talent Winners DIVERSITY, on Wednesday August 25th in the Rose of Tralee Festival Dome. The event, which celebrates Radio Kerry’s 20th Birthday, coincides with Alexandra Burke’s 22nd birthday on that day. It will be the first performance in Kerry for both Alexandra Burke and Diversity.
Also on the ticket is Dublin group Heathers, an acoustic Indie Folk Duo formed in 2007 by twin sisters Ellie and Louise Mc Namara. The duo have achieved significant radio airplay in 2010 with the song Remember When, which is featured on a Failte Ireland advertising campaign.
The Big Party is the first event of its kind organised by Radio Kerry. General Manager Fiona Stack said that the station is very excited with the opportunity to host two major international acts in Tralee and hopes that Kerry will extend its legendary welcome to them both!
Tickets are on sale from ROXY and Radio Kerry, Tralee or call 066 712 0159. The ticket price is €40 + booking fee, standing only and under 16s must accompanied by an adult. The doors open at 7pm with The Big Party starting at 8pm. No alcohol will be available in the Festival Dome.
300 volunteers are needed for the Kerryman Dingle Marathon, which is set to take place Saturday September 4th 2010.
An estimated 3,000 runners are expected to line up race morning, and the Dingle marathon organisers are seeking people to sign up for a variety of duties that need to be filled on the day. Last year the inaugural Dingle Marathon received huge support from the community and this year the organisers are hoping to see the locals out in full force again.
